Leaving corporate management behind to build websites the honest way... one face-to-face conversation at a time.

Six weeks ago, I made a big decision: I stepped away from corporate IT management to get back to what I genuinely love doing... building fast, bespoke websites for independent businesses.

Back when I last ran a studio in the 2010s, you could send a polite email and start a conversation. In 2026? We all know how it is. Inboxes are choked with automated bot spam promising to “scale your revenue” or “guarantee page 1 on Google.” It’s noisy, impersonal, and completely ignored.

As an introvert who would much rather sit behind a laptop writing clean code, that forced a bit of a reality check.

So last week, I tried something counter-intuitive: I shut the laptop, walked down our local high street, and popped into independent shops just to say hello and have a proper, human conversation. No sales pitch, no corporate slide deck.

What I heard from owners was eye-opening. Aside from the occasional “my nephew built it,” almost everyone was frustrated with the same three things:

×

Paying hundreds every year for a bloated site that takes 11 seconds to load on a mobile phone.

×

Being terrified to touch their dashboard in case they break something.

×

Having an abandoned site because their previous web developer vanished when they just needed an opening time or menu changed.

Taking the time to talk face-to-face was slightly out of my comfort zone, but it was easily the most rewarding day I've had in months. Sitting down over a coffee to chat through how an owner actually runs their business beats cold emails every single day.

If you run an independent local business, when was the last time someone actually sat down and listened to how your business works, rather than trying to sell you an expensive template?

Fancy a quick coffee and a chat?

No pushy sales pitches, no tech jargon. Just honest advice on what your website actually needs.
